Leader of Opposition Ronnie V Lyngdoh on Monday said the members of the National Liberation Council of Nongkyndong (NLCN) cannot be called militants.

Speaking to reporters, Lyngdoh said, “I think it is not a serious issue, it is just a few elements. In fact you cannot call them militants, you can call them misguided youths, you know (who have) that romantic idea of holding a gun.

He said that such misguided youths have to be properly educated that taking up arms is not the right path and not the solution to any problem.

Lyngodh also said that he does not think that poor economic conditions have led such young people to take up arms.

According to him, had that been the case, then many graduates and post graduates would have taken up arms by now.

He urged the State government to find ways and means to address the issue of unemployment by encouraging educated unemployed youth to take up various businesses.
