BJP legislator and cabinet Minister AL Hek on Thursday said 80 percent reservation should be given to the Bonafide citizens of Meghalaya in the private sector.

Talking to Meghalaya News 24, the cabinet Minister said everybody has the right to work, and proper opportunities to work should be provided to the youths..

“In a state of Meghalaya , there should be given 80 percent reservation in the private sector in the non technical where we don’t have our own people.80 percent should be reserved for the boys and girls from the state of Meghalaya irrespective of tribal or non tribal, all the citizens of Meghalaya,” Hek said.

The Minister stressed on the need to provide training to the youths in the hospitality industry as the sector has provided better career opportunities to the youths.

Admitting that the employment issue  is a big problem in the state, he said if one wants to work there is a lot of work to do in Meghalaya.

“In hospitality services , the tribal boys and girls are born with hospitality skills. If you give them a little bit of training, they will be good in any kind of hospitality services, be it in tourism, hotels, hospitals or any kind of hospitality services our people are best at,” he added.

Expecting a bumper upcoming festive quarter the hospitality sector has begun hiring additional talent for different roles across hotels and restaurants even as there exists a continuous shortage of staff.

The senior BJP legislator also said another sector that is creating employment and generating revenue is the tourism sector.

“I tell you the tourism sector itself is a major industry for creating employment and generating revenue for the state of Meghalaya, it’s a gray area. Employment still is a gray area in the state of Meghalaya, only my appeal to the citizens of Meghalaya you should know the dignity of labour, work hard and respect your work,” he said.

“Initiative taken by the Chief Minister, a lot of innovative schemes are being brought in the state of Meghalaya for creating employment to give employment to our youths,” the Minister added.
