9 companies of CPF including State police to be deployed in Shillong in view of President Droupadi Murmu’s visit

East Khasi Hills police has geared up for the security arrangements in view of the upcoming visit of President of India Droupadi Murmu on 16th January to Shillong.

Superintendent of Police (SP) East Khasi Hills district Sylvester Nongtnger in an exclusive interview to Meghalaya News 24 informed that as many as 9 companies of CPF including the State police will be deployed for the visit.

“We will be deploying atleast nine companies of CPF including the State police also, apart from that 91 officers and 19 Gazetted officers will be deployed during the visit of President to Shillong,” Nongtnger said.

The police have also visited the venue several times.

The SP informed that security arrangements including traffic management are in place.  A security rehearsal will be conducted on Monday from 10 am where vehicles will be staggered for some time. Police have requested the public to avoid the  Umshyrpi- ALG- Mawphlang route.

Asked if any special arrangements have been made in view of the withdrawal of peace talks by the proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC), he said the police are taking care of the security measures.

President Murmu will inaugurate the Meghalaya Games at the PA Sangma Stadium, Tura, on January 15 at 5 PM.

On January 16, she will address members of Self Help Groups at Baljek Airport, Tura, and virtually lay the foundation stone for the new Integrated Administration Complex in Tura.

 

On the same day, she will speak at Mawphlang, virtually inaugurate the upgraded Rongjeng Mangsang Adokgre Road and Mairang Ranigodown Azra Road, and lay the foundation stones for the Shillong Peak Ropeway and tourist accommodations in the villages of Kongthong, Mawlyngot, and Kudengrim.

 

On Tuesday evening, the Government of Meghalaya  will host a civic reception at the Raj Bhavan, Shillong in honour of President Murmu maiden visit to the state since assuming the office of the president.
