The Hynniewtrep National Achik Movement (HANM) today condemned the statement of chief executive member (CEM) of Karbi Anglong Tuliram Ronghang who claimed that the Khasi-Jaintia living in and around Mukroh West Jaintia Hills are illegal occupants.
Speaking to media persons, HANM vice president Kyllang Thongni said that the people of Meghalaya especially those living in border areas of Meghalaya-Assam will not accept such statements against and demanded from the government of Meghalaya to intervene especially from the CEM of Karbi Anglong district council.
Thongni said that such unjustified and baseless statements will lead to differences between the two communities who till date are living peacefully whereas.
“The recent incident which took place in Mukroh village, West Jaintia Hills was not communal but was due to encroachment of Assam Police to Meghalaya border since both states have failed to resolve the long pending boundaries issue” said Thongni.
Thongni demanded from Meghalaya government to immediately summon Assam government including the CEM of Karbi Anglong District Council Tuliram Ronghang to settle once and for all these allegations that the Khasi-Jaintia people living in and around Mukroh West Jaintia Hills are illegal occupants.
He added that the Meghalaya government should strengthen its police force in all border areas especially after the statement by the CEM of KAAC as those living in border areas fears that a similar situation might occur due to his reckless statement.
On the other hand, the HANM stated that they will not allow the intention of the KAAC to construct a monument of the Assam forest guard killed in Mukroh and a school within the territory of Meghalaya.
“If the KAAC goes ahead to construct a monument of the Assam forest and a school in Mukroh and if Meghalaya government fails to interfere in this matter, we will take matters in our own hands” warned HANM.
