Opposition Chief Whip and the sitting legislator from Gambegre constituency Saleng A Sangma will soon be vacating his Assembly seat after getting elected as the Member of Parliament representing Tura parliamentary constituency.
Saleng will visit Delhi on Wednesday to arrange his papers before taking oath as the as newly elected MP of the Lok Sabha.
Informing this, Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee President and former Member of Parliament from the Shillong Parliamentary seat Vincent H Pala said, “Tomorrow I will go to Delhi with Saleng because I have to help him to get his papers ready, then I will introduced him to party leadership.”
Congress candidate Saleng A Sangma unseated Agatha Sangma, sister of Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and the daughter of Late PA Sangma by a massive margin of over 1.55 lakh votes.
Asked, Pala said, the newly elected Tura MP will take a call within 15 days about vacating his Assembly seat.
Meanwhile, reacting to his defeat in the Shillong Parliamentary seat, Pala said he respect the mandate of the people and the way forward is to strengthen the party moving forward, reorganise the party, and reposition itself.
“This resources and the support from AICC which we were suppose to get we didn’t get.
I respect the mandate of the people. However, the way forward is to strengthen the party moving forward, reorganise the party, reposition ourselves, there is no surrender no going back,” the former MP added.
“We start moving for the next elections, we will reorganise the party, reposition ourselves and I think there is no surrender, there is no going back, we should move forward so, thats the way forward which we are thinking,” he added.
