The Congress party escalates its pre-poll election campaign in Meghalaya pressing its election machinery to the fullest as two of its senior most leaders hit the trail in Garo Hills.
Former Union Minister Mukul Washnik and former External Affairs minister Salman Khurshid campaigned for party candidates in Garo Hills areas.
AICC General Secretary Mukul Wasnik campaigned for Congress candidate from North Tura Billykid A Sagma and party nominee from Gambegre constituency Seleng Sagma emphasizing upon the party’s commitments for various sections of the state.
“BJP is enforcing a majoritarian agenda and people of North-East will not accept that,” said Mukul Wasnik insisting that the Congress party respects the diversity of the country and believes in pluralistic values enshrined by the constitution.
Senior party leader Salman Khurshid and former Minister of State for Finance Ye Jesu Dasu Salem joined Congress candidate Sayeedullah Nongrum to campaign for him in his constituency Mahendraganj. Nongrum has served as Health Minister of Meghalaya in previous Congress government.
“Sayeedullah Nongrum is a senior leader and he has stood by the people of his constituency in every thick and thin. I have toured the constituency and seen how people respect this person,” Salman Khurshid said addressing a massive crowd in Mahendra Ganj. He expressed confidence that Congress party would register an emphatic win in the upcoming assembly elections.
Khurshid also joined Wasnik to campaign for Congress party’s North Tura and Gambegre candidates. Congress party is also bringing its senior leaders including party’s President Mallikarjun Kharge, former President Rahul Gandhi, Deputy Leader in Lok Sabha Gaurav Gogoi along with other senior AICC leadership to campaign for party candidates this week.
