Meghalaya Govt to mull action plan to prepare state against natural calamities

Meghalaya Government will soon frame an action plan to prepare the state against natural calamities.

With the advent of the monsoon season soon, Minister in-charge Revenue & Disaster Management Kyrmen Shylla on Wednesday said a meeting will be held very soon in the presence of the chief minister Conrad K Sangma.

Speaking to reporters, Shylla said that the action plan would include identifying landslide and flood prone areas and different kinds of calamities in the state.

“We will come up with new initiatives (to prepare the state to tackle natural calamities) to prevent loss of lives. We want to save lives despite knowing the fact that nobody can predict a natural calamity,” Shylla said.

The minister said that the department is also planning to speed up all compensation to victims of natural calamities.

“The notification has come out that the deputy commissioner should utilize the money with them so that they can send the paper works later but as per norms. It need not be for them to complete the paperwork first and then give the compensation,” he added.
