Meghalaya Govt seeks report from police after BSF shoots cattle truck driver

​Meghalaya Government has sought report from the investigating officer following a truck driver carrying cattle from Jalynteng village identified as Roning Nongkynrih (34) was allegedly shot dead by the BSF at Pomshutia village along Pynursla-Dawki road on Friday night.

Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said based on the report, necessary action will be taken as per law.

“We are aware about the incident and, the concerned​​ investigation officer has been asked to immediately give us a report so once the report comes in as per law we will take necessary action,” the Chief Minister said.

Echoing the same view,  Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said that the law is there and the investigating officer is on the job, the Superintendent of Police East Khasi Hills is on the job and the report is expected to come by Monday.

Speaking to reporters, “I have already sent a team and the Superintendent of Police East Khasi Hills has been instructed to do it very fast as per this instant case is concern.”

“From the BSF point of view they said that it seems that the truck was carrying buffaloes or cattle, but as I said to you I cannot comment on anything unless the report is completed. I have told the police…I think maybe by Monday the report will reach my table,” he added.

Sources informed that the BSF allegedly shot Nongkynrih while he was on his way of dropping the cattle to be illegally smuggled to Bangladesh.

He also refrained from responding to a question on whether action will be initiated against the BSF personnel who were allegedly involved in the shooting.

Meanwhile, the Border Security Force also carried out an on spot investigation.
