IIM Shillong organises interaction with traditional heads

The Centre for Development of North Eastern Region (CeDNER) of IIM Shillong organized an interaction and consultation meeting with the representatives of Kaa Synjuk Ki Nongsynhar Shnong Ka Bri U Hynniewtrep, a Federation of Traditional Village Leaders of Khasi and Jantia Hills, Meghalaya.

 

This meeting marked the beginning of a promising collaboration between IIM Shillong and community leaders to foster the development of the North Eastern region.

 

During the meeting, Prof D.P Goyal, Director IIM Shillong, mentioned about several initiatives undertaken by the institution to drive the growth of the region. He emphasized the importance of forging collaborations and industry partnerships to create a favourable environment for entrepreneurship and job creation. Prof Goyal also stressed the need for enhanced awareness, mentoring, training, improved infrastructure, and support for start-ups in the region.

The Executive Council members, led by Bah R.L Blah, expressed their appreciation for the such initiative of IIM Shillong. They acknowledged the various training programs provided by the institution that have opened doors for students and youths of Meghalaya. A significant outcome of the meeting was the proposal to launch the Community Immersion Program (CIP) of IIM Shillong. This program aims to connect the students of IIM Shillong with the local community by immersing them in the rich culture, traditions, and values of the North East. Students will spend a week living with the community, supporting local businesses and organizations with management approaches and interventions. Prof Goyal sought the support of the community leaders to facilitate this program, further strengthening the bond between IIM Shillong and the region.
The meeting concluded with a commitment to work collaboratively on various initiatives, including creating awareness, offering career counselling, providing vocational training, implementing the community immersion program, promoting skill development, and fostering sustainability. The attendees deliberated on strategies to execute these initiatives effectively and expressed their dedication to working together for their successful implementation.
