Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Friday refused to comment on the chargesheeting of a sitting MLA, beside others by the Meghalaya Lokayukta in a corruption case.
The Chief Minister who is also the National President of NPP said, “It is a judicial matter and is subjudice in nature. so at this point it is not possible to comment”
The sitting MLA is Sanjay A Sangma, who is representing the Mahendraganj constituency, is one among the 12 persons, who have been chargesheeted in the case.
The Meghalaya Lokayukta has charge-sheeted 12 people, including NPP Mahendraganj MLA Sanjay A. Sangma, for non-completion of the construction of the member’s hostel, Tura. Sangma was a contractor of the project amounting to over Rs 6 cr. It was taken up a few years ago.
Meanwhile, NPP leader and deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong on Friday said it’s not the question of him (Sanjay A Sangma) being MLA or not because the project was allotted sometime back.
Refraining from making any comment on the order of the Meghalaya Lokayukta, which charge-sheeted 12 persons including a sitting MLA and 9 former members of the GHADC in a corruption case.
Speaking to reporters, Tynsong said, “The question is not about MLA or not MLA. Let us be clear about it. Just because he happens to be an MLA yesterday and you keep mentioning MLA, MLA whereas the project was done 3-5 years back or maybe 7-8 years back.”
“I don’t have anything to say much about this observation or the order given by the Lokayukta. Let the legal course of action do all the details and once they find out steps or the mistakes committed, then the law will take its own course,” he said.
