Meghalaya Govt ready to hold second round of formal talks; awaits response from HNLC: Prestone

Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Home (Police) Prestone Tynsong said the state Government is ready to hold the second round of formal talks with the Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC).

Talking to reporters, Tynsong maintains that the government awaits the response from the outfit.

“I have already clarified once that both the Central and State government is dedicated. So now the ball is with the HNLC’s court. They need to respond it,” the Deputy Chief Minister said.

Stating that the Centre and State government are committed towards the peace talks, he said,  “We are ready anytime be it tomorrow, be it today but as I said but now the ball is in their court.”

“The first formal talks have already happened where all the issues have been discussed so now we are waiting again for the next meeting from the government side, we are ready but we leave it ultimately to the decision to be taken by the leaders of the organization,” Prestone added.

When asked, Tynsong said, “(As far as amnesty is concerned), we have discussed in detail. I told you that it has been discussed in detail where members who attended the meeting understand and the members from the Ministry of Home Affairs have already explained all the details and I cannot deliberate to you at this point of time but formal talks have already started.”

“From the government side, we reassure you that we are sincere, we are dedicated and we are serious about the talk,” he said.
