Meghalaya ready to host National Games: Govt

SHILLONG, MAY 17: Minister in-charge of Sports Shakliar Warjri said that the state government is not giving up in hosting the National Games.

Speaking to media persons, Warjri said “We are going ahead with the National Games, there is no question of giving up but before us there are two states that will host the games first, so after them it is our turn”.

Warjri informed that the state government is waiting for the other two states to host the games but overall Meghalaya has already planned to host the National Games.

He added that there are many stadiums that have come out in the entire state including stadiums and indoor halls which have come up or are in progress in every district of the state.

“So there is a lot of infrastructure that has been done in the past six year years and after all these infrastructures will be built completely, we will be able to host the national games” he added.

The minister informed that the department is planning to shift most of the infrastructure to New Shillong Township as Shillong is very congested.

“We have planned in place to come out with infrastructure in New Shillong Township which I feel it’s much better and much easier for the athletes because travelling in Shillong will be very difficult due to traffic” he added.
