With Centre pitching for “One Nation, One Election”, senior BJP legislator in Meghalaya AL Hek said by having two three elections every year, the economy is drained out.
The Narendra Modi government formed a panel headed by former president Ram Nath Kovind to explore the ‘One nation, One election’ on September 1.
Hek said, “Today we are having two or three elections in a year, how much the economy is drained out of the country. If we have one nation, one election, the election is finished and we are free to rule for the next five years.”
“ Then we don’t drain out, no waste of the economy, no waste of wealth. We had to spend every year only for conducting elections, the MDC election, MLA election, Municipal election, Panchayat election, Lok Sabha election, there is no end of election,” he added.
Reacting to the statement of the proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) wherein the outfit said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s proposal for ‘one nation, one election’ may serve as a vehicle to promote the Hindutva ideology, which seeks to homogenize India under the banner of Hinduism, the state BJP leader and the cabinet Minister said, “We are all Indian, India is built on Unity in Diversity, I am staying in India, I am Indians, I am a Christian. Who makes this kind difference?I do not agree with those …some people are there who are sowing the seeds of hatred in the society.”
