Following meeting with Chief Minister joint secretary of HNYM Wyraiwan Sohtun said, the chief minister had called leaders of HNYM for discussion after its members had recently organized a public rally to protest against the rise of unemployment among the youths in the state.

Sohtun said that the members of the HNYM had submitted a memorandum to chief minister Conrad K Sangma along with the demand for creation of the state employment policy and 80% jobs reservation in private sectors in the state.

“In the meeting with the chief minister, he has assured us that he will examine the demands made by HYNM and he has also assured us that he will take up the issue in the cabinet” said Sohtun.

Sohtun said that in the meeting he had explained to the chief minister that private sectors in the state have a lot of potential to employ local youth in their organization and if this sector is not interested in giving employment to our youth then the state government should come with a law that will direct all private sector in the state to implement at least 80% job reservation for local youths of the state.

He added that the chief minister had sought time to take up the issue in the cabinet for deliberation as he agreed that their demands are genuine for the welfare of all local youths and the state as a whole.
