2nd Living Roots Festival will be celebrated on 7-8 December 2022

After a gap of three years, 2nd Living Roots Festival will be celebrated on 7-8 December 2022. The Tyrna Elaka in collaboration with the Tourism Management Committee Dorbar Shnong Tyrna Elaka will organized the festival which will coincide with the quasquicentennial jubilee celebration of the Tyrna Elaka.

Speaking to media persons, sirdar of Tyrna Elaka Andreas Wansai said that the two days festivals by the Dorbar Shnong of Tyrna Elaka in collaboration with India Tourism aim at promoting the indigenous culture and tourism in the areas.

Wansai said that the motive of organizing the 2nd Living Roots Festival is to celebrate the 125th year of resettlement from the old Tyrna village to the current Tyrna village following the earthquake of 1897.

“The first Living Roots Festival was held in the year 2018 but due to various restrictions during the pandemic the following year could not organize and 2nd Living Roots Festival will be held this year” said Wansai.

Wansai said that various competitions like traditional dance, singing and cultural programs will be held during the two days’ festivals along with various exhibitions to showcase the richness of the Tyrna.

He added this year ‘Miss Living Root’ will be held for participants of the Shella constituency and cash prizes will be Rs. 30,000, Rs. 15,000 and Rs. 10,000 for the first three winners.

“Tyrna is home to the second longest living root bridge in Meghalaya which is around 85 feet and the Tourism Management Committee of the village also aims to explore more tourist spots in the region” he added.
