Stretch of AMPT road from Agia to Phulbari is a fit case for converting into national highway: Mondal

Cabinet Minister and Phulbari legislator Abu Taher Mondal on Thursday said that the stretch of AMPT road from Agia to Phulbari is a fit case for converting into a national highway.

Speaking to reporters, Mondal said, “I have already discussed with the deputy chief minister in-charge PWD (Roads) Prestone Tynsong and he has given hope that this stretches will be taken up with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to convert the road into a national highway.”

He said the stretch from Agia to Phulbari, which is around 75 km, should also be declared as a four-lane road and should be named as 127(B) extension.

According to him, the road also meets all the strategic requirements as far as the national highway is concerned.

“It  is passing towards the international border so it becomes a strategic location and it takes us to the national capital Delhi, if we want to drive, it takes us to the capital of Assam and Meghalaya. Therefore, this will be a fit case for national highways,” he said.

He added that the road covers three constituencies from Meghalaya and three from Assam.
