Education Rakkam A Sangma informed that Meghalaya education department is planning to introduce Sixth Schedule in secondary level textbooks and basic laws of the state.
Talking to Meghalaya News 24, the Education Minister said, the department is working on the new Education framework and the curriculum.
“There will be new subjects in the state for the first time every student from the state and also outside the state who comes to study in Meghalaya must study about our culture, our own language. Every student must study about some basic laws in the schools and also about the 6th schedule which is a very strong pillar for the tribal people of the region,” Sangma said.
“Therefore, some basic knowledge is essential because hardly our students know about 6th schedule and the constitutional laws. Keeping this in mind we will have one more separate subject as has been proposed by the speaker in the Assembly that the state Children should study about our own culture. We have to protect, preserve and promote our own culture, the Education Minister added.
Sangma further added that even though the state is on the job to incorporate the sixth schedule and basic laws of the state in the MBOSE textbooks to give firsthand information to the new generation about these… He said that this won’t be implemented before the year 2025.
“Don’t expect the Government of India or outside agencies to come and teach you, this is why we should promote ourselves. This is to inform our youths about our culture, our 6th schedule. Once we develop our framework and curriculum we will know the details,” he said.
Sangma further said that the state government has asked the MBOSE to constitute the scrutiny committee to scrutinize English , Science and Mathematics of NCERT books before adopting it into the state syllabus.
