Meghalaya Asha Workers Union calls off proposed indefinite sit-in demonstration

The Meghalaya Asha Workers Union (MAWU) on Friday called off the proposed indefinite sit-in demonstration from 27 November in-front the main Secretariat Shillong.

This decision was taken during the executive committee meeting of the MAWU which was held at Golflink Dorbar Shnong Community hall.

Speaking to media persons, MAWU president Mirajune Myrsing said that till date the ASHA across the state have not decided whether to accept or reject the decision of the state government to hike Rs 1000 honorarium to the ASHAs by implementing the community base health incentives.

Myrsing said that in the CEC meeting of the MAWU, a discussion was held on the move of the state government to implement the community base health incentives and in the meeting a resolution was taken to give the government three months time to form these various committees to implement the community base health incentives.

“We have decided to call off the proposed indefinite sit-in demonstration from 27 November and have decided to resume work. However we have not accepted nor rejected the decision to hike Rs 1000 but we will wait for the government to form committees to examine our demand” said Myrsing.

Myrsing said that the ASHAs will wait for the government to constitute these committees and once the department implements the community base health incentives, the ASHAs will again sit to decide whether to accept or reject the hike in their monthly honorarium.
