Govt calls Harijan Panchayat Committee for talks on May 7

Meghalaya Government called the Harijan Panchayat Committee on May 7th for further talks.

Informing this, Deputy chief minister Incharge of Urban Affairs Sniawbhalang Dhar told Meghalaya News 24 that the state government will try to complete the process of negotiation with the Harijan Panchayat Committee (HPC) on the proposed relocation of the Sweepers’ Colony at the earliest.

“7th May we are calling them (Harijan Panchayat Committee) for talks,” Dhar said after attending the high level meeting.

Asked, he said this can be a decisive meeting.
“It should be (the last meeting) you will know that day itself,” he added.

The High-Level Committee (HLC) is headed by Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong was formed to settle the issue pertaining to the relocation of the 342 families of the Sweepers’ Colony from Them Iew Mawlong at the earliest.

It may be mentioned that a regular skirmishes have become a common phenomenon in the Harijan colony with a recent scuffle reported between two groups in the area, Dhar said that he has instructed the Authorities to ensure that such incidents don’t happen again.
