Meghalaya Govt calls North East Petroleum Mazdoor Union for talks at Nongpoh

Meghalaya Government has called the North East Petroleum Mazdoor Union for talks at Nongpoh on Wednesday.

 

Informing this, Minister in-charge of Food and Civil supplies, Meghalaya, Comingone Ymbon said this is done as an immediate step to resolve the matter.

 

It may be mentioned that the North East Petroleum Mazdoor Union has threatened to stop supply of oil and petroleum products to Meghalaya from 29 November alleging that their drivers and helpers faced harassment by Police in Ri-Bhoi district.

 

Speaking to media persons, minister in-charge Food Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Comingone Ymbon said that a meeting has been called between the members of the union and the state government along with top police officials and district administration to be held at Nongpoh on 29 November to resolve the issues.

 

“The objective to call such a meeting with NEPWU is to resolve the issues and to convince the union to withdraw its decision threatening to stop supply of Petrol and Diesel to Meghalaya” said Ymbon.

 

While urging the people not to panic, the minister in-charge assured that the state has sufficient stock of petrol and diesel.

 

Meanwhile, since morning, the petrol pumps in Shillong witnessed rush with number of vehicles queued up to refill  petrol.  Petrol pump owners claimed that they have sufficient stock.

 

A alarmed situation was seen in Shillong with petrol pumps trying to manage the rush of vehicles. Almost all the petrol pumps were facing this rush.
