JJM implementation is being politicize in Meghalaya in view of Lok Sabha polls: Marcuise Marak

Amidst allegations of discrepancies in the implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in Meghalaya, PHE Minister Marcuise N Marak said that the matter is being politicised in view of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Talking to Media, Marak said Meghalaya has made significant strides in Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) implementation with 73.15 per cent completion rate.

“Now that the MP elections are coming, these are all politically planned and just before the elections they have to make these kinds of allegations so that people will believe them and say that the Government is not doing anything.” Marak said.

Downplaying and refuting allegations of any corruption whatsoever in the implementation of the project, the Minister said the implementation is very transparent and once any project is completed by a contractor the payment is done only after it is vetted by a third party .

He further stated that once a project is completed it is being geo-tagged so there is no question of any corruption.

“JJM implementation is very clear, very transparent, payments are also very transparent and before payments the works are also monitored very thoroughly because even after completion of the projects, we have to geo-tag the projects. We have to Geo-Tag the sources and then where is the chance of lying to the people, there is no question at all,” the Minister said.

Marak further said that he hoped that the state would achieve 100 % JJM  implementation by February or March this Year. As of today, the state could achieve 4,76,596 Functional Household Tap Connections.

The Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), a flagship program of the Government of India, was launched on August 15, 2019, by  Prime Minister Narendra Modi to provide Functional Household Tap Connection (FHTC) by 2024 to every rural household.
