Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh told Meghalaya News 24 that the Meghalaya Government likely to call the Tenders for the long pending Shillong ropeway project within the last week of January 2024.
“The President of the country laid the foundation stone of the iconic Shillong Ropeway project so we want to move in a very steady manner, time bound manner and we should be able to unleash a series of projects within the next few weeks,” Lyngdoh said.
President Droupadi Murmu laid the foundation stone of the Shillong Peak ropeway project during her visit to Meghalaya last Tuesday. Lyngdoh expressed hope that the project will be completed by 18 months to 2 years’ time.
“The Shillong Ropeway project which will be one of the largest of its kind in the North East, we are very likely to call for bids within the last week of January 2024. Say if we call for bits by January we should take about a month also and the work should be commencing by March this year and with the weather conditions and the monsoon, we should be taking 18-24 months to complete the project,” The Minister said.
The estimated Rs 138 crore project was conceived by the state government two years ago. Once the work is completed in 18 to 24 months, it will be the first of its kind project in the state and one of the largest in the Northeast.
