Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh told Meghalaya News 24 the state Government is seeking financial support from National Development Bank and the Asian Development Bank for various tourism development projects.
The Tourism Minister said under the Meghalaya Eco tourism Infrastructure Development Project, the department is getting funding of approximately Rs 750 crores from the National Development Bank.
“We have signed an agreement separately with the Asian Development Bank for sustainable tourism and National Development Bank for the Meghalaya Eco tourism Infrastructure Development Project. Under these two tie-ups with the institutions, Meghalaya will be able to access funding for instance under the Meghalaya Eco tourism Infrastructure Development Project we are accessing funding of approximately Rs 750 crores,” Lyngdoh said.
He said with the Asian Development Bank, the state is working out a list of projects which are mainly livelihood based, meaning it will be aimed at strengthening the rural economy and diversifying rural settlers of the State into tourism as a viable economic activity.
“The state is expecting under this proposed sustainable Tourism Livelihood Programme which will be supported by the ADB, we will be able to ensure the livelihood of thousands of villagers in the villages and again under the Meghalaya Eco Tourism Infrastructure Development Projects for which we already tied up with the National Development Bank,” The Minister added.
