Deputy Chief Minister incharge of District Council Affairs Prestone Tynsong, on Thursday stated that the Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) are very much relevant in the State as he advocated for the need to strengthen it.
Talking to Mediapersons, Tynsong categorically stated that the Autonomous District Council (ADC) are very much relevant in Meghalaya as it provide full protection to the customary laws, culture and the welfare of the tribal people lies with the ADCs.
“…..it is very much relevant and we are what we are today are just because of these three district councils. So we have full protection out of the 6th schedule,” Tynsong said.
“That’s why the state government we cannot step in to the 6th schedule, it is being interpret in a way where the whole customary laws, the whole culture, the whole system that we have as a tribal lies now with the district council, where they have to only polish it and also strengthening is also required as per the provision of the 6th schedule, they can do that and from Government we are fully all out for them,” the Deputy CM added.
