Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Tuesday assured that any construction by Assam government will not be allowed if it is done within the jurisdiction of Meghalaya.
Speaking to reporters, Sangma said “Anything within the jurisdiction of Meghalaya if it is being done by anybody or any government or any other autonomous body that will not be allowed.” Sangma said.
The KSU and Mukroh dorbar shnong had alleged that the Assam government had decided to reconstruct the forest beat office at Mukroh in West Jaintia Hills District.
Sangma said, “Definitely will take up this matter (as) that will not be allowed.”
The chief minister informed that he could not meet a delegation from Mukroh yesterday as he was not in office.
“I will take a review of the situation and if there is anything to be done, then definitely we will take necessary action,” he added.
A delegation of the Mukroh dorbar shnong accompanied by the KSU leaders had demanded the government to immediately remove the Assam’s forest beat house from the area to avoid any untoward incidents.
The chief minister further informed that multiple discussions with Assam Chief Minister held in the last two days.
“We are going to have more discussions in the coming days. We will discuss to ensure that these kinds of future situations don’t happen again and no instigation or no kind of action that could lead to these kinds of situation should not happen. We are in constant touch and we are ensuring that the communication happens at the highest level,” he said.
