Assam assures to withdraw BOPs from non disputed zones along Interstate border : CM

Admitting that Assam has set up Border Out Posts (BOPs) in the non disputed areas along interstate border with Meghalaya, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said, Assam in the next few days has assured to withdraw BOPs that constructed within the border of the non-disputed zones of Meghalaya

“In next few days you will see that there are some particular Border Out Posts (BOPs) which were constructed within the border of the non disputed zones of Meghalaya, Assam has given commitment that those will be withdrawn also,” Sangma said.

“The main movement will be done by Assam where they want to ensure that neutral forces come in, wherever Assam has set up BOPs in locations which were very much in Meghalaya and non disputed zones those will be withdrawn,” he added.

Reacting to the move of the some quarters who questioned the move of the Meghalaya government to withdraw forces from the disputed border, the Chief Minister said, it’s a misconception as Assam is withdrawing the police from their side and they will be bringing neutral forces and Meghalaya will also show confidence and reciprocate the same.

It may be mentioned that Sangma and his Assam counterpart Himanta Biswa Sarma had met on Saturday as part of the second phase of border talks and decided to withdraw state police forces from the disputed areas and employ neutral forces like the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
