Relocation of Main secretariat to new Shillong Township will help in curbing traffic in Shillong: Dhar

Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar informed that relocation of the main secretariat to the new Shillong Township will help in curbing the traffic in Shillong.

Speaking to media persons, Dhar said that it will take 2-3 years to move the main secretariat and other main public offices to New Shillong Township and this will help 30-40 percent in easing the traffic in Shillong.

When asked on the implementation of Odd/Even on vehicles, Dhar said that the government needs to listen to the people also and the public have opposed this idea hence the government has not implemented the same.

“In the last few months the deputy commissioner (DC) had tried to impose Odd/even but it was not welcomed by people hence the government had stopped the idea” said Dhar.

Dhar said that it is not possible to restrict new vehicles but the government is in process to come out with regulations on one way and two traffic systems.

“The DC and the home department are working out on the Odd/Even system to ease on traffic jam” he added.
