Shillong, March 20: Meghalaya BJP president Rikman Momin on Wednesday said the party will contest the two Lok Sabha seats in Meghalaya. After the NPP decided to back the BJP in Arunachal Pradesh, the state BJP refused to follow the same trend in Meghalaya.
With the delay in announcing tickets, rumours are going around that BJP may not field any candidate in Meghalaya. However, putting an end to such speculation, the state BJP president maintained that the party has geared up for the Lok Sabha Elections.
“I got the order from the Central leaders that we are going to fight the two Lok Sabha seats in Meghalaya,” Momin said.
Meghalaya will go for polls along with few other states in the first phase.
When asked about the delay of the party to declare its candidates, Momin said “That you can ask from our central parliamentary leaders. We have already sent the list of probable candidates and we are waiting for the approval”.
Momin said that the party is always ready for the election and it is just a matter of candidates.
“Candidates may announce one day ahead of filing of nomination but we are ready for that” he added.
The central leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) New Delhi had sent two co-coordinators to Meghalaya to assist the party in preparing for the MP election to Lok Sabha.
Speaking to media persons, Meghalaya BJP president Rikman Momin informed that the two co-coordinators include Assam BJP spokesperson Kishor Upadhya who will assist in Shillong parliamentary seat and Akshay Rajkhowa who was assigned to assist the party in Tura parliamentary seat.
“Yes they will be supporting me, they will be guiding me in this up-coming MP election in Meghalaya” He added.
