Bodies of all 4 victims of Nongpriang village retrieved

SHILLONG, MAY 31: The bodies of all the four victims who were buried under the debris caused by a massive landslide hit Nongpriang village in East Khasi Hills District were retrieved on Friday.

In an around 36 hours long search operation, the rescue team could retrieve the bodies.

Earlier today, the body of the second victim of a landslide at Nongpriang village in East Khasi Hills District was retrieved.

 

Speaking to reporters, deputy commissioner SC Sadhu said “Teams from both fire and emergency services, SDRF and officials from the sub divisions are there in the location and they are trying hard. However, there is a big boulder caused by the landslide so they are removing it so that other two bodies are recovered. Effort is still going on.”

 

The deputy commissioner also informed that ex-gratia payment of Rs 4 lakh to each of the victims’ next of kin will be transferred immediately.
