The Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways and Ayush, Sarbananda Sonowal on Monday said centre decided to set up 39 integrated hospitals across the Northeast.
This will help in strengthening the health care system in the North Eastern region.
Speaking to reporters in Shillong, Sonowal highlighted the various development projects taken up by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Government in the last nine years.
“In the near future we have many projects for the Northeast, we have already decided 39 Integrated Hospitals to be set up across the North-Eastern region and also a thousand more health and wellness centres will come up,” the Union Minister for Ayush Sarbananda Sonowal said.
He further assures that the Ministry of Ayush is willing to set up hospitals in the region as per the proposals sent by the Government.
“….different 10 bedded, 30 bedded , 50 bedded as per the proposal sent by the respective state Government, we will set up these hospitals,” Sonowal said.
Further , he said with the entire North-East being the Hotspot of biodiversity, there are enormous medicinal value plants which need to be detected.
The Union Minister also informed that the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the AYUSH ministry have signed an agreement for collaboration and cooperation for research in the field of integrated medicine.
“We had an MOU with Indian council of Medical research (ICMR) with Ayush that is for the education and the research purpose and for the development. We are working together- both modern and traditional medicine, this is under the direction of honourable prime minister that both the ministries joining hand with each other, ministry of health and family welfare and ministry of Ayush, now you have seen in many centre’s integrated system of medicine has come up in various hospitals,” he added.
Integrated medicine refers to using alternative medicine systems such as ayurveda, yoga, naturopathy, unani, siddha and homeopathy with orthodox systems as part of a treatment plan.
