Centre yet to sanction Rs 600 cr scheme for Wahumkhrah River

Water Resources Minister Comingone Ymbon on Friday said the Centre did not sanction the scheme proposed by the Meghalaya Government for cleaning and reviving the Wahumkhrah River. He said the state Government has proposed Rs 600 crore for this purpose.

Speaking to reporters, the Minister said the state government has already submitted a proposal to the Centre for sanctioning of funds for cleaning of the Wahumkhrah river.

Ymbon said, “Unfortunately, the central government did not sanction the scheme. We had proposed around Rs 600 crore for reviving the river.”

The minister said that Rs 600 crore is a big amount for a small state like Meghalaya.

“If don’t get the sanction, how can we clean the river? The state government doesn’t have so much money. It is difficult for us to bear from the state government to clean up such rivers,” he said.
