Meghalaya Elections Department is gearing up for the counting, scheduled to be held on June 4.
The Chief Electoral Officer Dr BDR Tiwari on Wednesday held a crucial meeting with the State Election Machineries including the Police Officials and the Returning Offices. The Deputy Commissioners and the Superintendent of Police from all the 12 Districts attended the meeting.
With barely 10 days left for the counting this crucial meeting is expected to discuss various aspects including Law and order to the counting arrangements. Talking to Media, Tiwari said the counting of votes will be done at 13 counting centres across the state.
“We have 12 counting centres at the 12 Districts and one in the Sohra civil Subdivision,”the Chief Electoral Officer said.
He said the Election Department has geared up for the counting.
“Today we had a meeting with all the districts in respect to the smooth counting arrangement we have reviewed and found all the needful arrangements as per the Election Commission of India (ECI) instructions are well in place in all the districts,” Tiwari said.
He said the three layers of security arrangements for the string rooms are made and all the security arrangements as per the protocols are in place.
“The meeting was with the police team, Returning officers and DROs and all those part of the election process attended the meeting and we discussed the security related concerns also to ensure there is no untoward incident as far the election is concerned,” the Chief Electoral Officer said.
Tiwari further said the Election team is very confident that the counting will go peaceful.
He also said that Political parties are having regular meetings with the Election officials.
