CM reviews state’s preparedness to tackle natural disaster

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Wednesday reviewed the preparedness of the state to tackle any natural disaster in the state.

Sangma said he had conducted a review meeting with all concerned departments like the Revenue and Disaster Management, Food & Civil Supplies and deputy commissioners of different districts keeping in mind that the monsoon has already started and the state is already seeing heavy rainfall and heavy winds.

“It was a positive meeting. The necessary steps are being taken as we speak to ensure that the administrations and the departments are ready to ensure that all the support is given during different situations due to heavy winds and cyclones in the coming days and coming months,” he said.

He said that the government is also looking into all damages and loss of life and the different challenges that the districts are facing and people are facing at ground level.

The CM also said that the meeting was to review the steps that have been taken by the district administrations and “more importantly to ensure that we make necessary arrangements prepared for coming days in which we expect that the rainfall could be more and heavier and such eventuality the district administration and overall department should be ready to ensure that all necessary steps and relief is given to the people.”
