Meghalaya Government is planning to shift the state secretariat to New Shillong township in next three years.
Informing this Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said the construction of it is likely to start by October.
Addressing the foundation stone laying ceremony of road projects, the Chief Minister said, “We are already at the planning stage where the design for the new Secretariat is being worked out as we speak. We are expecting by the month of March, we should be finished and completed (the design).”
Stating that it’s not about New Shillong city or the New administrative city that needs to be better, he said there is a need to make the current existing Shillong better also.
“I will be taking a review next week on the presentation for the design for new Secretariat, once we do that we expect that by the month of October we should be able to start construction work of the new secretariat. We are hopefully ofcourse it’s a big challenge that in three years time we should be able to do majority of the work, so that there will be sufficient space for the secretariat to be shifted to new Shillong township area,” Sangma added.
It may be mentioned that the state Government after shifting administrative buildings is planning to realign the boundaries of the government building in the Shillong city to expand roads.
