Demand for up-gradation of Umthlong Nongthliew Govt. Secondary School

Demanding up-gradation of Umthlong Nongthliew Govt. Secondary School to Higher Secondary School, the Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) Nongthliew Circle on Wednesday met Director School Education & Literacy.

Stating that despite making an assurance to upgrade Umthlong Nongthliew Govt. Secondary School to Higher Secondary School, President of HYC Nongthliew Circle Joplang Kharnaior claimed that the state Government has failed to take any concrete decision in this regard.

Kharnaior informed Umthlong Nongthliew Govt. Secondary School was formed way back in 1956 and this school has completed more than 50 years in its service to impart education to the local population of Nongthliew and its adjacent villages.

He added that there are more than 18 villages under Nongthliew and till date there is no Higher Secondary School to facilitate those students from these villages to continue with their higher education after completion in Secondary school.

“Umthlong Nongthliew Govt. Secondary School was proposed by the competent authority to upgrade into a Higher Secondary School in 2019 but till date the Government has not taken any steps to upgrade the same for reasons best known to the Government” said Kharnaior.

Kharnaior said that the residents of Nongthliew areas are mostly farmers and they are poor and underprivileged hence having a Government Higher Secondary School in the area will be a great blessing to the people.

When asked, Kharnaior said that even the Director School Education & Literacy agreed to the demands of the HYC and had assured the delegation to take up the matter with the concern department.
