Meghalaya Pradesh Congress committee (MPCC) President Vincent H Pala has appreciated the performance of All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) in the recently held elections in Meghalaya.
While stating that the decision of the 12 Congress legislators to merge with AITC cannot be fully called blunder, the MPCC president said TMC has performed well in the Assembly elections in its first bid as it has equal number of seats to that of Congress and performed better than BJP.
“They thought of leaving the party Congress and join TMC, the TMC has done very well in Bengal polls and with that they will get a support but may be the people of Meghalaya did not support the ideology of TMC or maybe it’s the first time that they have come but if you look – they have done well in the Assembly elections, they first came to Meghalaya and they have got 5 MLAs and we have been here and we have got same number of MLAs,” Pala said.
“So in terms of performance I think TMC has done well compared to BJP who has been here for quite some time now, even compared to other parties also, so they have done well. Now if they plan to leave that I don’t know but in terms of performance TMC has done good, in terms of advertisement, in terms of marketing, in terms of social media I think TMC has done more than any parties. They have done excellent in engaging Prasant Kishore , one of the best political consultants in the country,” he added.
The Congress MP from the Shillong Parliamentary seat and the MPCC Present said even in Garo Hills, the performance of TMC was good, however, in Khasi Hills it’s more of individual based politics rather than party based.
“The response of the public in Garo Hills also was very good, but here in Khasi Jaintia Hills sometimes, most of the people here know whom to vote and whom not to vote. They know for MDC they will vote for this party, for MLA this party and for Lok Sabha this party. They know whom to vote for and how to vote, it’s not the party but the candidate, so sometimes it’s not the party which decides but it’s the people who decide,” the MPCC President said.
“If you see this, I cannot say they have done a blunder, that time it was hope for them but that hope did not go as planned,” Pala added while commenting on overall performance of this new entity.
With questions being raised over the political future of former Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma, Pala expressed confidence that Dr Mukul will revive back but he has to evolve as up and down is part of life.
“I don’t believe so, Dr Mukul is a very competent man, he was the Chief Minister for 8 years and MLA , with his experience and you see he is young not that old also. There are certain types of people who work hard, who have the capacity and experience. So Mukul Sangma, if he changes, you have to change, you have to evolve, be it me be it you sometimes we always have ups and downs in our lives,” Pala said.
“I don’t believe that Mukul will be totally out, he will fight back,” he added.
