General secretary of the Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) Eldie N Lyngdoh on Tuesday appeared before the Sadar police station after cases were registered against him in connection with the violent incidents during the peaceful rally over unemployment on October 28.
Speaking to reporters after coming out of the police station, Lyngdoh said that he was again directed to appear before the officer incharge on November 4.
At least six cases have been registered against Lyngdoh at Sadar police station and Laitumkhrah police station after several people were attack and vehicles vandalized during the rally.
In the summon notice, Lyngdoh has been directed not to commit any offence in future, not to tamper with the evidences in the case in manner whatsoever, not to make any threat, inducement or promise any person acquainted with the fact of the case so as to dissuade him from disclosing such facts to the court or to the police officer.
“I accept all the conditions and am ready to take responsibility because the objective was to take out a peaceful rally against the unemployment problem faced by our youth,” he said.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma had informed that one person has been arrested in connection with the violent attack on innocent people.
When asked, Lyngdoh said that the organization is trying to find out the person who has been arrested.
Meanwhile, the FKJGP leader said that the federation would continue to pursue with the state government on the issue. “We will soon submit a memorandum to the government for looking into the eight-point demands of the federation to resolve unemployment issues in the state,” he added.
