Former Trinamool Congress legislator from Salmanpara Constituency Winnerson D Sangma on Friday formally joined BJP. Sangma who quit TMC in 2023 December had expressed willingness to be part of the saffron party.
Speaking to Mediapersons, the former TMC legislator said BJP in Meghalaya is growing and many more will join the saffron party in the next few days.
Expressing gratefulness to the TMC leadership, Winnerson who was once a close Aid of Dr Mukul Sangma, former Chief Minister and leader of TMC parliamentary party said, “I decided to leave the party, but I am not leaving Dr. Mukul Sangma and others, they have been very kind to me, accommodated me at various levels and I am grateful to them.”
The former legislator said in the state as well as in the state the BJP is growing and it provides a stable platform, “As of today in this prevailing political situation in the state, I find that the BJP is growing and people have started to accept it. I have joined today as a member of BJP and many more will come along with me in the next few days.”
The former TMC leader, however, refused to comment on the likelihood of Dr Mukul Sangma joining BJP. He said many will join the BJP after him.
The two time legislator from Salmanpara Constituency, Sangma was welcomed by State BJP president Rikman G Momin at a function at state BJP headquarter in Shillong.
Others present on the occasion were State BJP legislators AL Hek and Sanbor Shullai were also present.
