From Social Media to the street: Is NPP changing mode of election campaigning?

Is the National People’s Party (NPP) changing its mode of election campaigning?

While the major political parties in India are courting social media influencers to reach out to the voters, National People’s Party (NPP) supremo Conrad Sangma majority of the people in Meghalaya are not actually active on social media, therefore this cannot be the only mode of campaigning.

With Political parties resorting to social media for promotion, Sangma while talking to mediaperson said social media is not always reflective of the society at large.

“We seem to judge our decisions or come to conclusions based on certain social media updates or reports but as I said from the larger perspective of the majority of the people, large sections are not actually active on social media,” Conrad Sangma said.

“I will say that social media is not always reflective of the society at large, there are many sections of the society they don’t have access to actually to social media or are not that active in social media. So social media happens to be something that is there that comes up for the people who are much more active in it,” he added.

The NPP National President also advocated for a traditional mode of campaigning by reaching out to the people.

Talking to Mediapersons, the NPP President claimed that in terms of vote share the party got highest number of votes in Khasi Jaintia hills, although this could not converted into seats.

It May be mentioned that the NPP as well as its leaders including the National President, who is also the Chief Minister of Meghalaya is very active on social media.

NPP candidates from both Shillong and Tura seats are reaching out to the people from Social media to the street.
