Govt to make Patharkhmah and Rongjeng functional from this current academic year

SHILLONG, MAY 13: The state government has decided to make two colleges at Ri Bhoi and East Garo Hills fully functional this year.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma informed that the buildings of both the degree colleges at Patharkhmah in Ri Bhoi and Rongjeng in East Garo Hills are almost completed except for some pending works like water connection and construction of approach road.

“In view of this, we have decided to go ahead in making the two colleges operational from this academic session 2024 onwards,” Sangma said.

“We are appointing the principal in-charge immediately. When the model code of conduct (MCC) is lifted after June 4, we will recruit all the necessary staff for both the colleges,” he added.

Asked, he said that the degree colleges will start with some departments from the arts stream.

“So this year we will start with some departments from the arts stream and in the near future, it will be done as per the NEP and that is we will start with all departments but that will take some time,” the minister stated.
