The Hynniewtrep Border Dispute Redressal Forum (HBDRF) said it would soon write to the Meghalaya Human Rights Commission (MHRC) with regard to the plights of the Khasi-Pnar residing in Block I.
This was informed by the chairman of the HBDRF Chandame Sungoh who alleged that both state governments have been paying no heed to the border dispute especially when it comes to the plight faced by the Khasi-Pnar living in Block I areas.
Speaking to media persons, Chandame Sungoh said claimed that the Khasi-Pnar living in Block I and Khanduli West Jaintia Hills are still facing the atrocities from the Karbi community especially when the KAAC started to erect a check gat at Khanduli West Jaintia Hills.
“Till date the Khasi-Pnar residing in Block I face atrocities from the Karbi community as they are prevented from travelling for medical care and farmers are being prevented from travelling to the agriculture fields” alleged Sungoh.
Sungoh asserted that even though both governments of Meghalaya and Assam had decided to start the phase II of the border talks, yet both state governments failed to look into the atrocities committed by the Karbi community against the Khasi-Pnar residing in Block I.
He added that the forum had already sent a letter to the state government to have the check gate of the KAAC removed from Khanduli yet till date it is still there and through this check gate the Khasi-Pnar residing along the Meghalaya-Assam borders faced harassment on a daily basis.
“Since both state’s governments fail to address the plight of the Khasi-Pnars in the border areas, we will write to the MHRC to seek intervention for the same” he added.
