To prevent and control the Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) in cattle, the Government of Meghalaya has declared the villages of Sumer, Mawlyngkhung, Umpyrdong-Umden, Umkon-Umden, Saiden-Nongpoh and Jyntru-Nongpoh under Umsning C&RD Block in Ri-Bhoi District and Rangthong under Mawkyrwat C&RD Block in South West Khasi Hills District as ‘infected villages’ of Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) in cattle.
The Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, AH & Veterinary Department informed that the confirmation of Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) in Meghalaya was based on the test result samples dated 28.04.2023 by the National Institute of High Security Animal Disease (NIHSAD) Bhopal vide letter No. F. No. 15-29/2019 NIHSAD/2, dated 12th May, 2023.
Minister incharge of AH & Veterinary Department, AL Hek said guidelines have been issued such as ban on movement of cattle to and from infected areas.
“We immediately had a meeting and I have directed the officials to take precaution and see how to protect others animals and further spread,” Hek said.
