The Jaintia Students’ Union (JSU) on Thursday sought the intervention of the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma to ensure safety and security of the Khasi-Pnar people residing under Block-I area.
In a memorandum to Sangma, the JSU requested the CM to take necessary measures and initiate talks with the Assam government to address the situation and ensure safety of the people.
The Union also suggested the need for the government to identify and apprehend members of the group responsible for the threats and violence.
“By ensuring they face legal consequences, will send a message that such actions won’t be tolerated,” it said.
Further, the JSU suggested the need to create safe zones or community centres to provide a refuge for those feeling threatened and facilitate communication with relegation authorities.
