Shillong, Jan 30: Minister in-charge of excise department Kyrmen Shylla on Tuesday said the department is proposing digitalisation to check revenue leakage if any. He informed that the department has sent the proposal for implementation of computerization to monitor the flow of revenue.
Speaking to media persons, Shylla said that there are also other states in the country that have already implemented digitization or computerization and have witnessed the increase in the revenue collection.
Shylla said that in Meghalaya there are no records of leakage of revenue as till date there is no data which is why the department is proposing for computerization with an expectation that there will be change and differences in the flow of revenue.
“As of now we have sent a proposal to the government for computerization on how to monitor the flow of revenue of the excise department” said Shylla.
He added that if there is a leakage, through computerization it will be known, if there is no leakage it will indicate that the department is doing good and hence there is a need for computerization.
“This is very important but I believe that the government will give us the chance to go ahead if there is no financial complication or financial problem for our state, so let us hope for the best and I believe that we can do the best for our department” he added.
When asked on illegal selling of alcohol, Shylla said that when it comes to illegal sale of alcohol he cannot confirm if it leads to leakage of revenue of the department.
“As per information if they buy from wine stores then there is no leakage and there will be no loss of revenue but if they get from other source or from outside the state or bonded then there is leakage as this will affect the retailer and the state exchequer” said Shylla.
