Minister Incharge of Fisheries AL Hek said that the state Government is promoting and encouraging trout fish farming.
Speaking to Mediapersons, Hek said the climates here except for Ri Bhoi and Garo Hills area are very suitable for trout fish farming.
“We also want to tell the people to start trout fish farming because our climates here except for Ri Bhoi and Garo Hills area are very suitable for trout fish farming. So we need to encourage people and people also should participate and this trout fish it also has medicinal values, people will come, so definitely we need to encourage local people to take up this business,” the Minister said.
Trout, quite a unique species in the world of fishes, Predatory, even cannibalistic, they belong to the Salmonidae family.
Aiming to make the state self sufficient in fish farming, Hek also encouraged the local people of the state especially the hilly areas to take up Fish farming in general as most of the fresh in the state is being imported from States such as Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal etc.
He further said that the Government can aid the people interested in fish farming with the various schemes like CM elevate etc so that they will be able to get a subsidy.
The Minister reiterated that for the state to attain self sufficiency peoples participation and self Initiative is key apart from Governments schemes
