Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Tuesday said the state government had already written a letter to the Centre for immediate inclusion of Khasi and Garo languages in the Eighth Schedule to the Constitution of India.
Speaking to reporters, Sangma said the recent letter was sent by the state government on November, after a meeting with the Khasi Author’s Society (KAS).
“In fact, after the resolution was passed on multiple locations, I have written to government of India to include both Khasi and Garo language in 8th schedule,” Sangma said.
“After KAS has met me last time, within the first week of November, I have already written a letter to the home ministry reminding them again…so whoever is making whatever statement they should find out and ask us first before making and jumping to conclusions as it gives a wrong picture,” he added.
