The state Government will redraft the Meghalaya Education policy in line with the National Education policy, 2020. The Minister in charge of Education Rakkam A Sangma said the new policy will be inclusive and more Meghalaya centric.
Talking to reporters, Sangma said, the redrafted State Education policy will have chapters dedicated to Meghalaya’s culture, unsung heroes, freedom fighters, history and the people.
“National Education Police, 2020 Meghalaya chapter, we are planning to redraft and amend the Meghalaya State Education Policy, but there are certain sections, certain portions which are beyond our limit. We are planning to redraft our Meghalaya Education policy (Meghalaya Chapter),” Rakkam said.
While assuring to give due importance to Meghalaya culture, freedom fighters, unsung heroes in the new drafted Education policy, he said, “If you talk about history, we should not forget about our state, our people, our culture. This is only if we get to display and show to the world our assets and we should not forget our history. “
While pointing out that Meghalaya was once known as the Education Hub, the Minister said, “Its high time that Meghalaya should lead as a tribal state of the country. We have contributed a lot and we will be contributing.”
Meanwhile, Advisory to the Government in the Education Department, Hima M Shangpliang said the state is going to come up with a customized New Education policy which is favourable, friendly and can be executed.
“With customise New Education policy is not just related to the unsung heroes or particular portion of history but is going to be an inclusive policy, an inclusive which will require a hard work to be put in by a certain dedicated group of people,” he said.
While stating that these certain dedicated groups of people will be constituted as a committee by the Minister, Shangpliang said, “The Minister has given direction to the commissioner secretary to submit the list of the people who will form the committee. “
