No arrest still in Ichamati killing, Police increases vigil

SHILLONG, MAR 28: East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Rituraj Ravi on Thursday said a magisterial inquiry has been initiated as the district police  are yet to make any arrest in regards to the killing of two persons at Ichamati in East Khasi Hills District.

 

Stating that the investigation is on, the SP said, “We have strong leads on some individuals who we suspect have committed the crimes at Ichamati. However, no arrests have been made so far. We are investigating the motive behind the crime. We urge everyone to maintain peace and abide by the rule of law.”

 

Yesterday, two persons were allegedly beaten to death by miscreants at Ichamati. The bodies of Esan Singh and Sujit Dutta were found at Ichamati and Dalda respectively.

 

The post-mortem examination was conducted at Shillong civil hospital.

 

 

Two separate FIRs have been filed at the Shella police station  under section 302 relating murder.

 

The SP informed that the situation is normal in Ichamati area but police are keeping a close watch.

 

 

 

The incident took place after the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) rally organized by the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) along with other NGOs at Ichamati.

 

 

Asked, Ravi said, “We are investigating into it from all the angles that we have before us and all the information that we have in front of us. However, I’m not at liberty to disclose the investigation details at this moment.”

 

“We are investigating from the perspective of two murders that happened last night.  Now if whosoever individuals are involved in this particular incident, we have got certain leads and till now we have not been able to make any arrest but we are pursuing the case from our perspective,” he added.
