No candidate filed nominations from Shillong and Tura parliamentary seats in the first two days as the gazette notification for the election was out on Wednesday.
“For the last two days no one has filed nominations from the two constituencies for the first phase of general elections to the 18th Lok Sabha,” An Official from the Election Department informed.
The NPP candidate from Shillong Parliamentary seat Dr M Ampareen Lyngdoh will be the first one to file her nomination. Dr Lyngdoh will be filing her nominations on March 22 while sitting MP from the Shillong seat Vincent H Pala is likely to file nomination on 25th. Independent candidate Prof Lakhon Kma may file on Saturday (23 March).
The other candidates for Shillong parliamentary seat include RDA candidate Robertjune Kharjahrin and VPP candidate Dr Ricky AJ Syngkon are likely nominations on March 26.
The BJP however is yet to announce its candidates for both Shillong and Tura.
Candidates from Tura include NPP Tura MP Agatha K Sangma, Congress legislator from Gambegre Saleng A Sangma and former TMC legislator Zenith M Sangma.
Nominations in other states have begun to be filed on Wednesday.
Meghalaya is one among 21 states/UTs going for the first phase of elections, to be held on April 19. Altogether, there are 102 parliamentary constituencies under the first phase.
The other States/UTs in Phase 1 are Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Jammu and Kashmir, Lakshadweep and Puducherry.
