Not many takers for ‘home delivery of liquor’ in Meghalaya: Shylla

Despite the Meghalaya Government allowing home delivery of liquor in the state, there are only a few takers.

The initiative to allow licensed wine stores in the state to be able to cater to customers to their doorsteps started during COVID time in 2020, but two years down the line not many people are enthusiastic about it.

Informing this, Excise Minister Kyrmen Shylla said, “When it comes to Home delivery of liquor there was urgency due to COVID 19, so as of now even those who registered also, not all of them are functioning.”

“As of now not everyone is utilising it, many has infact stopped it but still there are few who are delivering it,” the Minister added.

Elaborating the reason, he said, “The reason is that now as everything has open, now people don’t feel needs as the situation has come to normalcy and they don’t find it necessary compare to Covid time when it really help a lot to the users and it shows the revenue collection of the state.”

Though the state Government is yet to take any decision to stop this service, the Minister said, the required call will be taken if there is any complaint regarding this.

“If there is any proposal or any one complaint against it, the home delivery of liquor will stop as of now we don’t feel necessary either to stop it or go ahead. We are still on if somebody has any complaint then we will take a call and based on that we will stop,” Shylla added.
